Colorado Springs City Information

The city of Colorado Springs is the second most populated city in the State of Colorado and is 68 miles south of Denver, the capital of Colorado. At an elevation of 6,035 feet, Colorado Springs is over a mile above sea level and is situated near the base of one of the most famous American peaks, Pikes Peak, on the east side of the Rocky Mountains and one of Colorado’s 54 fourteeners. Many religious organizations and churches make their headquarters here as well as a large number of military installations: Fort CarsonPeterson AFBSchriever AFBUS Air Force Academy, and NORAD. The city is currently home to the United States Olympic Training Center and the headquarters of the United States Olympic Committee.

With a variety of nearby outdoor activities including: hiking, biking, skiing, fishing, and camping there is always something new to discover in Colorado. Colorado Springs averages 250 days of sunshine per year and has relatively mild winters. If you like skiing or snowboarding, various ski resorts can be accessed within a couple hours of driving and Hwy 24 is a great shortcut to utilize in order to avoid the ski traffic on I-70. Colorado Springs is growing quickly and many new homes are being built on the east side of town along the Powers corridor including Corderra and Wolf Ranch in addition to areas in Black Forest, Falcon, and Peyton (Woodmen Hills and Meridian Ranch). If you enjoy more privacy and like the mountain feel, Woodland Park is a beautiful place that is only 30 minutes out of town and has many conveniences in town such as a new Wal-Mart, grocery stores, restaurants, and a new hospital which is still under construction.
